Start with Strong Roots
Linda Cozyn comes by it honestly. A third-generation greenhouse owner, Linda is proof positive that growing plants is hereditary. But the 50,000 square-foot greenhouse and retail complex of today had much more humble beginnings. It all started in the early 80s with a dream.
Above all, do what you love
Bill and Jose Cozyn loved gardening. A staple of local farmers’ markets, the Cozyn’s grew flowers in their 10’ by 15’ backyard greenhouse to the delight of customers every week. In just a few years, demand outgrew supply. It was decision time for Bill and Jose. Enjoy the safety of comfortable jobs, or risk everything and follow their hearts. Cozyn’s opened in the spring of 1983 on its current site with one greenhouse and a lot of hope. Growing means growing
Success came quickly. The original store was renovated and expanded several times in the 80s. New bays of greenhouses reflected the growth of a business that embodied growing at its heart. Bill’s dad, “Opa” Cozyn contributed to the business as well, bringing years of knowledge and experience to the team.
A family business
When Bill and Jose decided to begin taking a step back from the business, daughter Linda took the reins, managing the day-to-day operations. With a lifetime spent in the greenhouse and gardening industry, Linda endeavors to make Cozyn’s Garden Gallery the best it can possibly be. This includes a focus on guiding the fourth generation as son Aaron joins the management team, and daughters Nicole and Shannon learn the ropes as well.
A Greenhouse first
Although many see Cozyn’s as a place to find gifts, home decorating treasures, and now women’s fashion, the greenhouse was always the primary focus. Stepping into the greenhouse is to walk forward in time. Spring bedding plants and flowers emerge in winter. Fall mums and poinsettias begin growing in late summer.
The Christmas store
Three months of the year Cozyn’s transforms itself from a garden store into a Christmas wonderland. Customers stroll among more than 30 fully decorated Christmas trees. Christmas inspiration is everywhere you turn, with holiday decorating ideas for every room in your home. A business is also a responsibility Cozyn’s Garden Gallery is mindful of the fact that more than just family depend on the success of this independent local business. With 8 full-time as well as 10 part-time and seasonal staff members, Cozyn’s is a valuable part of Stratford’s business landscape. Customers who choose Cozyn’s are contributing to the economic stability in the region, and helping to keep jobs where they are needed.
